The signs (2007) exist in four different types; three of which were inspired by Chinese characters. A simple horizontal
line is the symbol for »yi«. This sign is known as »one« and stands for sky, horizon, unity, and the origin of all existence. The pictograph for »èr« consists of two horizontal lines set one above the other, the upper line shorter than the lower one, and stands for »two,« the Earth, and for Yin and Yang, the dualistic principle of male and female.

Three parallel lines of the same length form a trigram called »quiàu,« a basic sign of the I Ching and a symbol for strength; as such, it is used both horizontally and vertically.
